Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is something that our team loves to continuously learning about. SEO tips for our own business and for our clients is always a focus.

      SEO Tips

I listened to an old podcast from an SEO freelancer in our Creative Allies community. Stephanie Caudle is the true definition of an expert. Although the podcast is older, the tips she shares are evergreen and are relevant now and will be relevant for years to come.

There are very few things I’ll sit through for 30 minutes and not get distracted! This podcast is worth the listen and underscores why SEO is so important for small businesses.

Here are 10 things from the podcast that small business owners can start to apply right away to help grow their business. We are trying to get these tips out to as many business owners as possible!

       1. A beautiful website alone will not bring you visitors.

We learned this one the hard way! A few years ago, we were very consumed with the design and layout of our website. In reality, that’s not what brings you visitors. At the end of the day, your site should generate leads for your business. Leads come from great content, not just a great visual.

       2. SEO results come after time.

We are all guilty of being impatient. Or is that just me!? But traffic to your website or social media growth will not happen overnight. Remember, it’s important to put an SEO strategy in place and make sure there are ongoing, consistent SEO activities being done to optimize your content. Good results will come over time.

      3. Don’t forget about creating a mobile-friendly site.

This one should be obvious, but it’s always good to double/triple check every single page of your site. You should know what your potential clients are viewing. Make sure it’s optimized for mobile. Check that it is viewable correctly in different browsers, too. You don’t know how a new visitor may check you out. Make sure they have a pleasant experience.

       4. Answer the questions that your target customers have.

Keyword research is critical to know what to write about. It’s also free. There are many tools you can use to identify keywords that should be included in your content. People visit a lot of sites, but they stay on sites if their questions are answered and it appears that you can meet their needs. If you don’t want to tackle this alone, we can help. Knowing which questions to answer and what words to use is key to having optimized content.

       5. Make sure your website has a clear customer journey.

There needs to be a clear path from the time someone makes it to your site until they leave. This takes time to define and most people neglect this area.

      6. Position your authority in the marketplace.

Find something of value that you can offer potential clients for free and start to build trust. People love free! I know that I do! If you provide value to your clients, they will keep coming back.

       7. Create content with a purpose.

If there is content on your site that isn’t answering a question, or helping a potential client, it’s probably not needed. Keep it simple.

      8. Repurpose content.

This is a huge timesaver. Most people will not visit you on every possible channel, so make sure your content is where the people are. Take a blog you’ve written and create a YouTube video about it. Reuse some of the content on Instagram, and so on.

      9. Use free resources to gain awareness.

Sites such as Medium already have high domain authority, so if your content is there, it helps your brand awareness. Identify what other sites are available for you to post your content.

      10. Guest post to further gain exposure.

This is is a great way to get your name out there and get good backlinks from other trusted sites.

There is so much information out there, that it’s great to find curated SEO tips that you can apply fairly quickly to help your business.

SEO is extremely critical to the success of your contact. This is true for us at Creative Allies and for all of our clients.
